Tribal governments were eagerly awaiting the vote last week on the federal emergency funding bill, in particular to learn what would be available for federal Indian programs.
As tribes in Arizona grappled with the closure of their tourism offerings, casinos and hotels along with increases in expenses related to health and human services, they welcomed the news that the $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package would give $8 billion to tribal governments and $2 billion worth of emergency funding for federal Indian programs, such as Bureau of Indian Education and Indian Health Services.
