Paralleling the Covid pandemic is a similarly disturbing rise in domestic abuse worldwide.
“Domestic violence is a public health and public safety issue in and of itself,” said Ed Sakwa, CEO of Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse. “When you take that [within] the context of the Covid pandemic, you have a recipe for increased risk for many people in our community.”
Beyond traditional resources like emergency shelter, safety planning and domestic violence education, the Tucson-based nonprofit seeks to engage our community at large in addressing the underlying causes of abuse.
