Letter from the Big Chief and Tournament Chairman

by
The Thunderbirds

The Thunderbirds – named because the emblem of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce is a Thunderbird derived from American Indian symbols – was founded in 1937. That year, the then-committee had just five members.

Over the past 80-plus years, we’ve grown into a 300-member organization focused on hosting the PGA TOUR’s best-attended tournament – The Waste Management Phoenix Open Presented by The Ak-Chin Indian Community.

We hope to raise more than $12 million for Arizona nonprofits during this year’s event.

Please enjoy this special issue of The Arizona 100, your guide to the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

– Carlos Sugich, Big Chief of The Thunderbirds, and Chance Cozby, 2019 Tournament Chairman
