As dawn breaks on this year’s event, Troy Haviland and his specialized team will take the reins in a time-sensitive engineering feat requiring a unique set of skills. Between Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, Troy and his team will have hitched, unhitched and adjusted harness over 200 times.
Some of the iconic historical wagons include Tucson’s inaugural police wagon, a horse-drawn “fire truck” and a whimsical horse-drawn school bus – each horse uniquely matched to the weight and design of the wagon. Amidst the parade’s 99th year, the towering draft horses and cherished historic wagons stand as symbols of Tucson’s rich heritage.
