Tanque Verde Named For Algae But Hailed For Ranch Lifestyle

Located just outside of Tucson, Tanque Verde was settled in the 1860s by ranchers. Tanque Verde means “green tank” in Spanish and was a fitting name given the massive water tank in the area that gained notoriety for its green algae.

Over the past 160 years, Tanque Verde has been hailed for its rich soil and ranches, and more recently for its significant equestrian presence. It attained national attention when Nickelodeon chose it as the backdrop for “Hey Dude”, a sitcom on the network from 1989 to 1991. Today, tourists worldwide flock to the region for the award-winning Tanque Verde Ranch.
