This year, Christmas and Hanukkah will both occur on Dec. 25, which – considering the latter is entirely based on the Hebrew calendar and shifts from year to year – is somewhat rare.
How rare, you ask? Well, let’s take a look.
In just over 100 years, it’s happened four times: in 1921, 1959, 2005 and 2024. According to Hebcal, the pair of observances will overlap again in 2035 and 2054.
More holiday fun facts: In 2013, the 25th day of Kislev (a.k.a. Hanukkah) fell on Thanksgiving – evidence of an extremely rare overlapping not slated to occur again for more than 70,000 years.
