Make no mistake: Mornings and nights in the Sonoran Desert can be downright chilly – especially in January, the Grand Canyon State’s coldest month.
This year, Jan. 7 marks the 112th anniversary of the coldest low temperature on record in Tucson. In 1913, the mercury dipped down to a frigid 6°F at the University of Arizona (which was, at that time, the city’s official temperature location).
January 2024 was the 40th warmest and 15th wettest month on the books. By the numbers, temperature extremes ranged from a whopping high of 80° on Jan. 29 to a low of 28° on Jan. 9.
