Among the various landmarks dotting the Phoenix landscape, the gleaming white pyramid in Papago Park might be the most unusual.
The above-ground burial place of George W.P. Hunt – the first and longest-serving governor of Arizona – literally took shape in1932, a decade following the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in Egypt.
Swept up by the frenzy of interest in pyramids, Hunt – who was appointed U.S. Minister to Thailand by President Wilson in 1920, purportedly to make way for other politicians in the Grand Canyon State – requested a three-dimensional polygon as his own final resting place with six family members.
