Community spotlight: Arizona legislator seeks support on solving housing crisis

by Katem

According to an ASU research reportArizona is 270,000 housing units short  and U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani might have a solution.

In January, Ciscomani introduced his idea to fast-track construction of affordable housing by cutting red tape and encouraging partnerships.

The Speeding Up Production of Essential Residences (SUPER) Demonstration Act proposes a pilot program in 10 communities across Arizona  focused on reducing construction time and costs  by decreasing regulatory requirements for developing affordable housing.

Who benefits? Frontline workers in Phoenix, for instance, who cannot afford to buy a single-family home (or rent a two-bedroom apartment) based on current prices.
