Why managers need to know about change

by The 100 Companies

Change is as inevitable as death and taxes. Technology and competition evolve continuously. Jack Welch famously said, “Change before you have to,” a dictum all managers should heed.

Determining which changes may help an organization reach its goals is difficult enough, but implementing them is harder, because of human behavior. People simply find change uncomfortable.

Managers must understand that people adopt change reluctantly. They must understand the why’s, the how’s and what’s in it for them. Most importantly, they need time to accept and adapt to change.

Good managers must sell change to their teams, explaining thoroughly and implementing patiently.
