What motivates you to take action? Is it reading about something in the newspaper that piques your interest? Is it seeing a story on television that does the trick? Perhaps it is being introduced to someone whose story is just the encouragement you need to get involved.

October marks the beginning of the fall season. Temperatures are beginning to dip back into the double digits. The leaves are changing in some parts our state. Pumpkin festivals and haunted houses are in full swing. And you might even see festive holiday decorations up in some of the stores.

Arizona is in the midst of its primary election season. Candidate signs are popping up on street corners, mailboxes are overflowing with postcards and fliers and advertisements are hitting the airwaves and the pages of local newspapers. Primary elections occur every two years, always in an even year for federal, state, county and local offices that are up for re-election.

With record-breaking temperatures hitting Arizona this week, it is hard to imagine that there are some school districts where kids are already heading back to the classroom. In the olden days (you know, when I was in school), back to school meant getting a new pair of shoes, a new outfit, a new lunch box and thermos (which I would promptly break within the first week) and of course, new school supplies.
