Public Relations Agencies Need to Help Stop the Spread of Disinformation This Election Season

Stop Disinformation This Election Season

Disinformation, or deliberately misleading information or news, is a major problem in society according to 58% of Americans in a new Institute for Public Relations report.

Disinformation threatens democracy and the election process, but very few companies are tackling this issue. The IPR survey found 70% of Americans said companies and corporations should be responsible for combatting disinformation, but only 27% were doing at least “somewhat well” combatting it.

Agencies can help by supporting local news (most trusted media according to both Republicans and Democrats) and implementing media literacy training, including how to identify and stop the spread of disinformation.
