Hope has long been considered a powerful medicine.
This week, my wife and I are putting this belief into action as volunteers for HopeKids, a Phoenix nonprofit founded in 2001.
Last year, as a first-time volunteer at Week of Hope, I washed dishes, cut the grass and changed sheets – which, for an extrovert like me, was akin to feasting on humble pie.
Giving families a break from everyday life – starting with 21 meals and dirty dishes they didn’t have to think about – is a priceless gift.
Who knows what tasks will be needed this year? I can’t wait to find out.
