Spina bifida occurs in utero when the spine and spinal cord do not form properly. It’s the most common neural tube defect in the United States. There are over 165,000 individuals living with the condition in the United States. Those living with spina bifida use crutches, braces, walkers or wheelchairs for mobility.
The Patsy Reeve Foundation, founded to honor one of Patsy’s grandkids who was born with spina bifida, focuses on raising funds to send local children with spina bifida to Camp Patrick, a camp with medical staff extensively trained in working with children with spina bifida, at no charge.
