In the Grand Canyon State, monsoon season spans the entire summer, from mid-June to late September. Since seasonal storms can move quickly, consider these tips for keeping yourself safe:
• Turn around if faced with standing water or flash flooding while driving.
• Pull over if caught in a dust storm, which can reduce visibility to zero in seconds.
• Seek shelter indoors at the first sound of thunder and remain until the storm passes.
• Plan how to communicate with family in the case of a weather emergency.
• Prepare an emergency to-go kit with food, water and prescription medication to last 72 hours.
