It sometimes helps to look beyond the field of play

Athletes perform best when they finally “see the field.” Attending my daughter’s soccer game, I looked beyond the field, seeing a homeless camp at the park’s edge.

I wandered over at halftime and met Scott, who – save for a few unlucky breaks – might have been on our sidelines with us. Instead, he was living under a tree, barely surviving.  Each week now, my wife fills containers with homemade chicken soup and I take it and other comfort items to Scott.

In this season of giving, I hope we all remember those less fortunate and donate what we can. Happy Holidays.
