Every four years we get an extra day ‒ February 29 ‒ known as Leap Day. This additional 24-hour period is added to the calendar to make sure it stays in line with the Earth’s movement around the sun.

The calendar contains 365 days, but in actuality it takes the Earth roughly 365.2421 days to orbit. This might not seem like that big of a deal, but over time that quarter of a day per year adds up. So an extra day is added to make up for all the lost time. What will you do with your extra day this year?
